Pump stations and treatment works, measured as they stand
3D laser scanning of pump stations, treatment works, valve chambers and pipelines, delivered as point clouds tied to your survey control on request or as-built models of the civil, mechanical and pipework. Fast on site, safe in live and confined plant.
Africa's only Autodesk Platinum Partner · Fixed price for a defined deliverable · Registration report with every project
SOUND FAMILIAR?
The drawings of a 30-year-old pump station rarely survive 30 years of changes
No reliable as-builts
Pumps swapped, pipework rerouted and valves added over decades, and the only record is in the heads of the operators.
Live, confined and unpleasant spaces
Nobody wants a survey team in a wet well or a screening room for days. A scanner captures a pump room in minutes and leaves.
Tie-ins that have to fit first time
A new rising main or valve chamber connecting to existing pipework needs flange positions and levels to the millimetre, not to a sketch.
Dozens of small sites across a region
Reticulation pump stations and reservoirs are spread out, so each visit has to count and the data has to be consistent across all of them.
WHAT YOU GET
Choose the deliverable your project needs
One site, four ways to receive it. Order the point cloud on its own, or let us turn it into a model your engineers can design against.
-
Point cloud
Scan only
Registered and survey-grade, as E57, RCP or LAS, and tied to site control on request. Loads into Civil 3D, Plant 3D and Revit.
For engineering teams that do their own modelling -
As-built model
Scan and model
Civil, pumps, screens, valves and pipework modelled in Revit, Plant 3D or Civil 3D at LOD 100 to 300, by discipline.
Upgrades, replacements and tie-in design
-
Chamber extracts
Scan and extract
Just the valve chamber, pipe run or structure you are working on, cut from the full cloud with sections and invert levels.
Tie-in drawings and chamber details
-
As-built verification
Add-on
The installed equipment and pipework compared with your design model, so you know what was built before you sign it off.
Contractor sign-off, handover and commissioning
Also available: 3D mesh for reverse engineering · LOD 350 and 400 on request.
Model it yourselves? We supply ReCap Pro, Civil 3D, Plant 3D and ReCap training, and workstations that handle large scans.

FAQ
Questions water engineers ask us
Can you scan a live pump station?
Can you scan a live pump station?
Yes. Scanning is non-contact and quick, so the station keeps running. Our technicians are inducted, carry their own PPE and follow your confined-space and gas-monitoring requirements for wet wells and screening rooms.
Can you tie the scan to our survey control?
Can you tie the scan to our survey control?
Yes, as an optional extra. We tie the registered point cloud to your control points so it sits on your coordinate system and lines up with the civil drawings, the pipeline design and your other sites.
Which level of detail do we need?
Which level of detail do we need?
LOD 100 places structure and equipment as placeholders for feasibility work, LOD 200 gives generic geometry for concept design, and LOD 300 gives accurate pipework, valves, equipment and structure for tie-in design and clash checking. Most pump station upgrades are LOD 300. LOD 350 and 400 are available on request.
Which software can we use the data in?
Which software can we use the data in?
Point clouds in E57, RCP, LAS or LAZ for Civil 3D, Plant 3D, Revit, Navisworks and most other packages. Models in Revit, Plant 3D or Civil 3D, organised to your standards.
Is a small site worth scanning?
Is a small site worth scanning?
Usually, yes. A pump room or valve chamber takes an hour or two on site and is quoted as a fixed price, which is normally less than the cost of a return visit when a tie-in does not fit.
How accurate is it?
How accurate is it?
Our FARO Focus scanners have a ranging error of ±2 mm or better, and every project comes with a registration report showing the accuracy achieved. Pipework and flange positions in the model are agreed to a tolerance in the quote.
What does it cost?
What does it cost?
Every site is a fixed price for a defined deliverable, based on the size of the works, access, the number of sites and whether you need a model. Programmes of several sites are priced together. Send us the basics and we will come back with a price.
Which areas do you cover?
Which areas do you cover?
We are based in Cape Town and work across the Western, Eastern and Northern Cape, including regional municipalities.
What do you need from us before we start?
What do you need from us before we start?
Site access and a contact person on the day, any existing drawings, the areas to be captured and the deliverable you need. If the scan must tie into survey control, send us the control point coordinates.
WHY CLIENTS USE MODENA
A record your engineers can design against
-
Pipes, valves and structure as what they are
Classified by discipline, so tie-in design and clash checks work from day one instead of from a blob of points.
-
Built by the people who teach Civil 3D and Plant 3D
Our modellers are the same specialists who run our Autodesk training, with their own tools for working with point clouds.
-
Accuracy you can check
FARO Focus scanners with ±2 mm ranging error or better, control-point tie-in on request, and a registration report with every site.
-
Scope and price in writing
Sites, disciplines, level of detail and tolerance agreed before we scan, quoted as a fixed price.
